A journey of the soul begins here: Santa Maria degli Angeli
Dear guests,
You have chosen a special place for your stay. Even before arriving in ancient Assisi, there is
a small wonder to discover at the foot of the hill: Santa Maria degli Angeli, the beating heart
of Franciscan spirituality, but also a place of traditions, authentic scents and unforgettable
views.
Here we propose an exciting and complete itinerary, which you can experience on foot, by bicycle, or simply with a beautiful walk immersed in nature.
📍 Distance from Assisi Panorama Luxe: 8 minutes on foot Piazza Porziuncola, 1
It is one of the most important places in the world for Franciscan spirituality. Inside, in the heart of the majestic basilica commissioned by the popes, is the Porziuncola, the small stone chapel where Saint Francis received his calling and founded the Order of Friars Minor. Recommended time to visit: at dawn or in the late afternoon, when the light caresses the naves and peace reigns supreme.
🕒 Opening hours of the Basilica:
Every day: 7.30-12.30/ 14.30-19.00. Free admission
🎧 Fun fact: behind the main altar is the Cappella del Transito, where Saint Francis died.
Next door, the Porziuncola Museum offers Franciscan relics and works of art.

📍 Next to the Basilica
Leaving the basilica, immerse yourself in a timeless corner: the Rose Garden of Saint Francis, where legend has it that the roses lost their thorns at the touch of the saint. Today this enchanted garden is a pause of silence and wonder, ideal for meditating or simply breathing in beauty.
🌸 Legend has it that one night, tormented by doubts and temptations, Francis rolled naked among the brambles to mortify his body and find peace. But in that extreme gesture, a miracle happened: the brambles, at the touch of the saint, transformed into thornless roses. Even today those unique roses, the Rosa canina Assisiensis, bloom only here.
Not far away, in a small enclosure, live the white doves that have populated this corner of silence for years. They do not fear man, they almost seem to listen — discreet guardians of a place where peace has taken root.
📍 Start from Piazza Garibaldi (in front of the Basilica)
A slow, spiritual walk, among olive groves and silence.3.5 km on foot, along a path marked by ceramic tiles with scenes from the life of St. Francis.
⏳ Duration: 45 minutes / 1 hour
🌇 Tip: walk it at sunset. You will see Assisi light up with golden light as it approaches you.
